Service-Learning and Peace Education Course
Earn 3 credit hours (undergrad or grad) for less than 1/2 the cost with Mayerson Foundation Scholarship available to all who enroll.
Service-Learning: an instructional strategy that connects classrooms to their communities, enhances academic achievement, encourages civic responsibility, and serves as an instrument of peace.

Service-Learning & Peace Education (18 PRFS 518 805 ) is an education course offered in partnership with the Urban Center for Peace Education and Research for students interested in understanding the educational reform movement of service-learning. This course will include:
• Understanding the theory and practice of service-learning
• Creating meaningful & relevant lesson plans for all students
• Building learning partnerships with community organizations
• Analyzing appropriate reflection techniques
• Deepen your understanding of social justice issues
The course will involve current research in the field of service-learning, readings, guest speakers, building community connections, and a capstone presentation on service-learning methodology. It is expected that you will be engaged in a service experience in a social-service agency for a portion of the instructional hours.
Class credits will apply toward:
• Masters and Doctoral programs in Educational Studies
• Professional Development graduate credit for teacher licensure renewal
• A Peace Education Certificate
• An Urban Education Certificate
• Continuing Education Units
This course includes:
• Fall quarter; 1st. class on September 3, 2008
• Schedule: Meet once a week (Wednesdays)/12 weeks/2 hrs. 15 minutes per session/3:45-6:00pm (we can create our schedule as long as we meet the 30 instructional hours)
• Reduced cost ($206 per credit), plus tuition support from the Mayerson Foundation (equal to one credit).
• 3 credit hours (Graduate/Undergraduate)
• CEU Unit Options ($100 each)
• 30 instructional hours
• Location: Ursuline Academy of Cincinnati; 5535 Pfeiffer Rd, Blue Ash, Ohio
