PEACE EDUCATION FORUM
When: June 25-28, 2006
“Educating
a Generation to Create a Culture of Peace”
of
the WORLD PEACE FORUM
Where:
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
“Cities and Communities: Working Together to End War and Build
a Peaceful,
Just and Sustainable World”
Request
for Proposals
The World Peace Forum 2006, a major international gathering on peace,
will provide an umbrella for movements and organizations working on
peace to come together, network, and demonstrate that there is a growing
international commitment to peace, justice, and sustainability.
The
education component of the World Peace Forum seeks to bring together
teachers, students, elders, and citizens with interests in pre-school
to post-secondary education to:
-
produce
and disperse curricula of peace, including teaching programs, activities,
and methodologies;
-
model and provide organizational strategies that can be replicated
to sustain efforts of peace organizations beyond the timeframe of
the planning and conducting of the World Peace Forum; and
- transform
society by seeking answers to the questions “what is the world
we want?” and “how, through education, are we going to get
there?”
This call for
proposals invites you and your organization to share your knowledge with
2000 expected participants from around the world who are committed to building
peace, contesting global militarism, and making aggressive solutions intolerable.
The program of the education component of the World Peace Forum will be
established as much as possible by participating organizations. Beginning
Sunday, June 25, through an opening plenary focussed on teaching peace in
times of war, in times of oppression, and in times of reconciliation, the
following two days will be devoted to activities and programs identified
through this call. Proposals should focus on education for peace and should
insofar as possible model cooperative, interactive and participatory methodologies,
and formats.
The
planning committee wishes to develop a diverse and broad program and
will attempt to connect groups with similar interests.
Each
proposal should include (see form):
-
a
detailed description of the proposed event including objectives and
activities
-
the target audience
-
an initial list of facility requirements
-
a proposed length of time required
-
contact information including email, FAX, phone, and address
Please use our online submission
