Peace Village Announces Programs

The Peace Village is beginning the Fall with two exciting programs. All students, faculty and/or congregants are welcome to participate.

Annual Rubber Ducky Regatta

The FreeStore FoodBank is holding their 11th annual Rubber Ducky Regatta on Sunday, September 4th. Thousands of rubber ducks will be launched into the Ohio river in a great race. The winner is the FreeStore, which charges $5.00 per duck. The individual winner can come away with a car and a million dollars. The Peace Village intends to participate in two ways:

  • Purchasing duckies for the race. This can be done at local Kroger stores and/or by calling Cathy Boston at the FreeStore at 513.482.7547
  • Cathy needs people to help pull the duckies from the river. We will meet at 2:45pm at the Serpentine Wall and help Cathy and her team. This is a fun way of meeting the FreeStore staff and volunteers and being a part of the FreeStore's largest fundraiser. Over $500,000.00 dollars are raised! Please call or email Cathy or me if you and a team can pitch in.

September 11th Reflection

The Peace Village in cooperation with religious and educational organizations in Cincinnati is holding the third event to reflect on what we have learned from September 11 and to honor all those who were victims of the terrorists. On Saturday, September 10, 7-8 pm, we will be meeting at the mosque on Clifton Avenue to begin the discussion of what has prevented and provided better communication and understanding of the terrorist crisis and, then, we will move up Clifton Avenue to continue our discussion at Clifton United Methodist Church on what we have done and can do to build bridges of hope. We will hear from an interfaith panel and then divide up in small groups to encourage participation. We hope to find groups of people coming to this evening of reflection who wish to continue to build more structures for compassion and understanding.

Interfaith Walk

On September 11, Sunday, the third Interfaith walk for peace will start at the Clifton Mosque at 1pm and walk up Clifton Avenue, pausing at the fire house, religious institutions, and the University of Cincinnati. The walk gives everyone a chance to reflect, discuss, meditate, and honor this very important day. I believe that both of these events are excellent educational and spiritual experiences for people of all ages. By the end of the walk, many people have said, there is a sense of hope, caring, and deep respect.
